Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?
Isaiah 40:12

There are times as we walk on the path of faith, when we cannot understand God. During these times, which seem difficult, we feel confused and weary. We feel like we want to fall down.

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God
(Psalms 42:1)

We have this yearning inside of us to understand - 'What went wrong?'. We feel upset because there is something we cannot understand or explain.

Spurgeon wrote "There are those who, when the rod falls, cry out against the afflictive dispensation. They ask, "Why am I thus afflicted? What have I done to be chastened in this manner?" "

It is important in these times not to despair. Without fail, we have to be the ones to set up deeper faith in God. When Abraham was asked to sacrifice Isaac how could he understand this?

We try to bring God down to our level, and we cannot understand Him. The problem is that with our Logic, we are limited.

Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor?
(Isaiah 40:13)

On the contrary, what we must believe is that God is the one who is unlimited. The one that cannot be grasped. Though we cannot imagine him, though we cannot comprehend him, he is surely beside us and watching over us.

That God is above us, that God knows our pain, and that God is guiding our life. If we set this up, this faith as small as a mustard seed, then Jesus reassures us...we can move mountains!

Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales; he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust

Even Lebanon is not enough to burn, Nor its beasts enough for a burnt offering.

All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless.

To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare him to?
(Isaiah 40:15-17)

Remembering Isaiah's rebuke to the Isrealites can help us keep faith in our times of hardship.
