The Bishop of Durham, the Rt Revd Dr Tom Wright has joined the Church Army's Sunday project entitled Get OUT More. The event is scheduled for 25th September 2005 and aims to challenge churches to undertake a mission activity and highlight that the focus on making a difference where people are in the community.

The Bishop Wright comments: "The Church Army has witnessed to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ since 1882. This is a remarkable achievement of getting ‘out and about’ to bring care and hope, action and faith. Their example is an inspiration. I am delighted to encourage all parishes to observe Church Army Sunday on 25th September 2005 and to use their example as our inspiration to get out into the community."

This year's event will take place on the fourth Sunday in September, and will be a day reserved to help to equip the churches reach and impact people in everyday life situations.

The range of activities that churches and its members can participate in is huge and will develop the visible and effective Christian presence in common community situations such as at car boot sales, pub quizzes, and meeting the needs of clubbers.

The Bishop Wright added: "Use the day with an event to reach out and let people know that the church of God is alive and welcoming and has some good news to tell them."

"And of course let us give when we can and pray for the continuing work of Church Army," he concluded, as this day is an opportunity for churches to remind themselves of Church Army's work and to consider providing support for Church Army in prayer and possibly finance too.

To help and inspire churches and church leaders, the Church Army has released Action Idea sheets, where suggestions how to take part are displayed.
