The head of Italy's Bishops' Conference has received a second package containing a death threat as well as a number of bullets.

The death threats to Monsignor Angelo Bagnasco have come following comments he made against same-sex unions, a number of news agencies have reported.

The envelope, which arrived on Saturday, contained three bullets at Mgr Bagnasco's Genoa archdiocese.

The latest threat follows one sent previously on 27 April, in which a single bullet was posted.

In addition, Mgr Bagnasco, who is leading a campaign against legislation that would give many legal rights to unmarried couples, including gay ones, was given bodyguards several weeks ago after graffiti threatening him was scrawled on buildings.
