BMS World Mission is continuing to support reconstruction in Lebanon following last summer's war between Israel and Hezbollah with a vital relief grant of £9,500.
The grant will buy its partner organization, the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development, a second-hand four-wheel-drive vehicle to provide essential access to project sites in areas of ongoing post-war reconstruction.
Nine months later and streets in Lebanon are still cluttered with debris and buildings await reconstruction.
Yet the process to rebuild Lebanon has been slowed by a political crisis between Hezbollah and the Sunni-led Lebanese government, while rivalries between external donors continue to stall the delivery of vital relief and repair goods.
Despite the difficult conditions, BMS's support will allow the LSESD to make some headway in its reconstruction assistance.
The new vehicle means that LSESD will no longer have to rent a car to efficiently carry out the progress monitoring and field research that is core to its relief and development work.
"LSESD has always been driven to help people," said BMS Manager for Mission Partnerships, David McLellan, "and this grant will help keep them on the move."
