A host of British entertainers and TV stars have offered their services to local churches in a bid to help boost congregations and get worshippers "rolling in the aisles".

Former BBC Radio 2 presenter, Nick Page, has launched Shorehill Arts, bringing together more than a dozen top entertainers to help run Christian events in churches and church halls.

The list of stars includes Wendy Craig, Cannon & Ball, Paul Jones with his wife Fiona Hendley-Jones, Jimmy Cricket, Syd Little and Frank Williams. TV and newspaper commentator Anne Atkins is also available.

Page said: "Many churches today are looking at new ways to present the Christian message to people who don't normally go to church. These artists, all committed Christians want to help local churches put on events where the Christian faith can be presented in a meaningful way, but also fun."

He added: "Non-churchgoers can learn something of the centrality Christ can have in a person's life. All events are designed to be cringe-free and because the star is known as a household name, it is far easier to invite a friend along to church to the event."

Cannon and Ball have been running a 'Rock Around the Church' event over the past year, which has become increasingly popular.

Many of the entertainers on the Shorehill Arts list are available as part of an evening with compere Chris Gidney, director of Christians in Entertainment.
