A group of ‘cowboys’ and ‘bunnygirls’ will be holding a demonstration outside the Houses of Parliament to remind members of the House of Lords of the implications of passing the Government’s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.

The House of Lords will open the debate on the Bill on Monday, which, if passed, could open the way to legalising the creation of human-animal hybrid embryos.

The demonstration, organised by the Lawyers’ Christian Fellowship (LCF), is one of the organisers of the demonstration.will be a stark visual reminder of what could become reality as men will be dressed as cows and women as rabbits from the waist upwards, whilst maintaining human appearance from the waist down.

Andrea Minichiello Williams, the Public Policy Director for LCF, said, “The feeling in Parliament is that this is not an issue that the British public is particularly concerned about. However, most people are largely unaware of this proposal. When you tell them what the Government are proposing they are usually horrified.”

She said the demonstration would "dramatically alert the public to the kind of 'science fiction experiments' which may soon become reality”.

The Bill is expected to issue the first licences in the next two weeks allowing scientists to create human-animal hybrids. The LCF said, “The fact that they are doing this before Parliament has decided the issue has caused great concern.”

The Christian Legal Centre and Comment on Reproductive Ethics (CORE) are both considering bringing a legal challenge against them.
