Leading cancer charity Marie Curie Cancer Care has created a special faith resource pack which it is piloting in Oxford, Coventry and Birmingham Dioceses to help people address end-of-life issues.
The ‘Comfort and care’ pack has been put together with the help of the Rev David Knight, chaplain at the Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull. If this pilot proves successful the charity hopes to extend it to other places throughout the UK and to other faiths.
The charity is asking congregations to hold a special service and collection on the fifth Sunday of Lent, also known as Passion Sunday.
It also encourages congregations to pray for the terminally ill, their family, friends and carers.
Included in the pack are hymns, a selection of prayers, intercessions and readings, as well as group exercises suitable for use all year round.
The pack also provides information on the work of Marie Curie Cancer Care and advice on how to deal with end of life.
