LONDON - A man in his 30s has been arrested for murder after a police officer died attending a domestic incident in northwest London, Scotland Yard said on Thursday.

The death happened when police were called to a house in Wembley early on Wednesday evening.

A man was initially arrested for assaulting a police officer but a different officer, 47-year-old PC Chris Roberts, subsequently collapsed outside the address.

The Daily Mirror said Roberts had been pushed down stairs while trying to break up a family row.

He was taken to hospital in north London where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem later revealed he had died of natural causes, namely heart disease.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said in a statement: "I am deeply saddened by the death of one of my officers -- a father of three -- while on duty and my thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues, especially at this time of year."
