The Salvation Army UK is set to hold its fourth Annual Mission and Ethnic Diversity seminar in March 2007. The three-day seminar will look to provide inspiration and support to those already involved in, or wanting to embark on, multi-ethnic mission.

The Salvation Army is inviting delegates from all denominations to unite at the event at High Leigh Conference Centre and hear a number of specialists speak.

It is intended that delegates will be equipped to build connections with support networks, as well as to learn useful strategies and models of ministry.

The Salvation Army is hoping that delegates will learn a better understanding of the concept of culture and the implications for ministry by attending the seminar. In addition other focuses will be:
- How our view of the world affects the way we see and react to others
- How to be proactive in outreach to different groups
- How to create and/or enhance links with a wide range of community-based organisations concerned with different ethnic and cultural groups

A release promoting the event says: "The seminar is fully open to all denominations. We believe this will add tremendous value for all participants in that we will learn from each other and will understand more about the broad range of thinking, approaches and activities in the area of multi ethnic mission.

"We will learn from each other whether we view others as being more or less 'successful' than us - no matter what our definition of success. Sharing experiences, even if similar, with others from another context will add to the rich mix already evident in our own tradition; and will be stimulating and possibly challenging for all participants."

Speakers at the event include: The Salvation Army UK Head, Commissioner John Matear; General Director of the Evangelical Alliance, Rev Joel Edwards; Sandra Ackroyd from the Urban Churches Support Group, URC; Director of the Urban Theology Unit in Sheffield, Rev Dr Inderjit Bhogal; Claudette Douglas, from the Research & Development department of the Churches Commission on Racial Justice; and many other speakers.

The conference will take place from 14-16 March 2007, at the High Leigh Conference Centre in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
