Students from more than 1,000 campuses across the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Canada and the Philippines will take a vow of silence to express sorrow at the thousands of abortions that take place every day in each of their countries.

The annual Students Day of Silent Solidarity has been organised by Stand True Ministries and is in its second year running.

“Thousands of American babies are permanently silenced every day by the violent act of abortion,” said Bryan Kemper, president of Stand True Ministries. “This day is in honour of those children, and we will stay silent as an act of solidarity with these innocent victims.”

Students will remain silent the entire day, donning red armbands or red duct tape over their mouths. They will also distribute educational flyers to any one who asks why they are silent.

The day of silence has even attracted home-schooled students, non-student individuals and some private companies to participate.

“This year’s response to this event has been astounding,” said Kemper. “I am honoured to be part of an event that has brought out so many young people who are willing to stand up for the truth in such a courageous and impacting way.”

He added: “These students are excited to have a united opportunity to stand up for the babies with fellow students from around the country in a peaceful and effective manner.

“We have received many e-mails from students thanking us for giving them this opportunity, and telling us how excited they are to promote the event.”

According to statistics from the Department of Health, 185,000 abortions were carried out in England and Wales in the UK alone during 2004, an increase of 2.1 per cent from 2003.
