This question was asked In advance of next week’s National Christian Resources Exhibition, where ethically-based home insurance will be discussed. Britain’s church-goers have voted with the result of more than one in four - the highest minority - believing that Jesus would still walk everywhere. Those who reckon he would choose to drive, think his chosen vehicle would be a Campervan.
“I’m not surprised at the results,” said CRE founder Gospatric Home. “Jesus spent his life interacting with people - and you can’t do that from behind the wheel of a BMW. When John Wesley travelled round Britain he chose to ride on horseback, not in a carriage.”
“For UK Christians S-U-V seems to equal S-I-N!” said Margaret Slater of Congregational and General Insurance. ‘While the survey is light-hearted, we hope it sparks serious debate on ethical and environmental issues that affect us all.” Congregational and General will be at CRE to launch www.shared-values.co.uk- ethically-based home insurance.“We all have a part to play in caring for our environment,” said Joy Gilmour from CRE. “Some Christians try to reflect this when choosing their means of transport. It is our children’s children who will suffer from poor choices we make today.”
CRE, Europe’s leading annual Christian exhibition will be opened by Bible teacher, author and broadcaster Jeff Lucas. Among several key contributors are Lord Trimble, former first minister of Northern Ireland, and former MP Jonathan Aitken.
Lord Trimble will present the Christian Book Awards at the event and take part in a literary luncheon with Jonathan Aitken.
The annual CRE brings together some 340 suppliers, charities and missions under one roof. More than 120 seminars and presentations will help churches and individuals to be more effective in their ministry. More than 11000 people visited the show in 2005. This year, the dates are set for Tue 9 – Fri 12 May, 2006 at the Sandown Park Exhibition Centre.
