Is God growing a new movement in our Church? Mark Stibbe highlights how God seems to be moving people to use the gift of prophecy in evangelism more and more, perhaps building up to something big in our country, and beyond. However he also reveals that prophecy in evangelism is no new invention!
Before reading this book I had increasingly been hearing the phrase “prophetic evangelism” and seemed to keep meeting people discussing the use of prophecy in evangelism. A lot of people are familiar and exercise the gift of prophecy, but for some, it is unheard of to use it in evangelism.
In this book, Stibbe uses several references from both the Old and New Testament to clearly show how God can speak to us about non-Christians with the purpose of sharing a revelation with them in a way that will convict, and convince them of the power, the love, and essentially the existence of God. Stibbe firmly believes that prophecy is for everyone, not just some elite group in your church. This is impressively backed up by many testimonies both personal and from colleagues, which are simply amazing to read. Some of the stories leave you shaking your head with that “wow” sensation!
Stibbe also looks into an area that some Christians would consider to be controversial, in claiming that God can and does speak directly to non-Christians. Using biblical examples, such as that of Saul on the road to Damascus, Stibbe shows this to be true in a sensitive, yet firm manner. Several powerful and moving testimonies are again used to illustrate that this does happen today.
This is one of those books you can’t put back on your bookshelf to collect dust allowing the message to fade away in a distant memory. This book will wake you up to what Stibbe believes is a calling to Christians, and inspire readers to step out in what will most likely be a new technique in their personal Great Commission. This book was published in the first part of 2004 and it would seem from the increasing conversations I’m having about it, that prophetic evangelism is growing. Jesus said “I only do what I see the Father doing”. If this is a movement in the Holy Spirit, let’s follow him! |
